Viděl jsem za oknem krásného motýla,
krásného jako sen,
křídla mu barvami nádherně zářila,
byl slunečný den.
A já jsem zatoužil chytit ho do dlaní,
a tak jsem vyšel ven,
pak jsem se rozběhl a volal za ním:
„Chci tě pro sebe jen!“

„Tak počkej na mě počkej,
chci tě pro sebe jen!“
On mi však uletěl, chytit se nenechal,
marné mé volání,
tak jsem se zastavil, trochu se vydýchal
a koukal za ním.
On potom na stromě na květ se posadil,
vysoko ve větvích,
a ač byl daleko, tak stále krásný byl
jak slunce smích.
A pak mě napadlo do trávy sednout si,
nikam se nehonit
a čekat jak ten květ, až motýl přiletí,
když sám bude chtít.

I saw a lovely butterfly behind the window pane,
as lovely as a dream,
its wings were shining with colours,
It was a sunny day.

And I wished to hold it in my hand
and so I went right out,
running and shouting after it:
“I want you to be just mine!”

"So wait for me, wait
I want you to be just mine!"

But, the buttefly, it did not wait,
my calling was in vain,
so I stopped to catch my breath
and watched it fly away.

It sat on a blossom high up
in the branches of a tree
still lovely, despite the distance,
as lovely as laughter of the sun.

And then a thought crossed my mind
to sit on the grass without any haste
and, just like the blossom, wait till the butterfly comes
when it itself wants.
